Annual Wage Review Decision

On Wednesday 4 June 2014 the Fair Work Commission announced its annual wage review decision adjusting award rates and the federal minimum wage by 3% effective from the first pay period on or after 1 July 2014. This brings the national minimum wage for adults to $640.90 per week or $16.87 per hour.  The trade rate will be increased by 3% resulting in the apprenticeship wages for both pre and post 1 January 2014 being increased.  The 3% also applies to allowances which are derived from a percentage of the standard rate in the award.  Expense related allowances will be adjusted by the relevant Consumer Price Index.

In making their decision FWC President, Justice Iain Ross, Senior Deputy President Ian Watson, Commissioners Paula Spencer and Peter Hampton, Tim Harcourt, Professor Sue Richardson and  Mr. Anthony Cole took account of the 0.25% increase in the superannuation guarantee levy payable from July 1 2014 and that the CPI increased by 2.9 per cent over the past year.

The decision included reference to the National Training Wage rates being increased by 3% as are rates in transitional NAPSAs that continue to operate in relation to apprentices and trainees in Queensland.
